Tom’s Journey into Legal Recruitment
We sit down with Thomas Brown, our specialist Legal Recruiter covering London & the Home Counties.
It’s been just over a year since I started my journey with William James Recruitment and quite possibly the best year that I’ve had in recruitment to date.
Thinking back to when I first walked through the doors of recruitment, I would never imagine the place I am in now in such a thriving industry with over 5 years of experience under my belt. I started as an Apprentice in Resourcing and worked my way up to a bona fide Legal Recruitment Consultant, which speaks volumes to the fact that Recruitment is a path that anyone can take no matter where you start out.

In the past, I have been thrown into roles with little to no support. It has been really refreshing to be a part of the team at William James; a place where I don’t get lost in the crowd when I need help and I get the answers and encouragement that I need.
Typically, people say that deals are the best thing about recruitment, but the thing that makes me most enthusiastic about my work is getting interview requests. Finding the right candidate for the client, especially with more senior candidates, gives me a huge boost.

One of the most valuable things I am grateful I acknowledged early in my career is that the better you are at sourcing candidates, the more disappointments and dropouts you will face. This is where the invaluable experience and lessons I have learned from our CEO Paul Wingfield and the team come in. Working so closely with Paul and the rest of the team has given me priceless hands-on experience and has taught me so many lessons, including to never give up on candidates and never take anything at face value.
As I reflect on my first year and look to the future with William James, I am extremely grateful for the time that has been invested in my own personal and professional growth.
I am looking forward to another year of learning and developing alongside William James Recruitment. As we continue to grow, I know I am in the right place to really commit to building a stellar relationship with candidates and clients in the legal market. Ultimately my aspiration is to build a reputation for myself in the legal recruitment industry and to be the person clients come to for all their talent acquisition needs. I believe that with William James Recruitment this aspiration is becoming more and more attainable and the support that I have been given really is second to none.
